Digital storytelling is the realisation and acceptance that in today's digital world, communication is no longer down to a single piece of content. A wider strategic approach is necessary. A single piece of content gets extended by cut-downs, by websites, by images, so one communication strategy has to hit multiple points.
Think of a typical project:
- The hero video
- A shorter version
- A teaser
- A 9:16 version for different platforms
- A behind-the-scenes video
- Still photography that goes hand in hand with the hero image
- Content for websites or press releases
Digital storytelling is anything that encompasses that. Platform-specific content on its own is no longer as relevant, because a single story and a single project need to live across platforms and across media.
What that means for me
As a digital storyteller, I specialise in adapting content and productions: from the scope to the workflow to the team and people needed to make them. I develop a project across media, across platforms and across scopes, so it can live in the digital world and have the highest possible impact.
